چکیده

Introduction: Intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) into the carotid atherosclerotic plaque has shown significant association with clinical symptoms and is believed to be a major factor causing plaque instability and progression according to previous histopathological and prospective studies . With the development of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in clinical diagnostics, several techniques have been developed to enable and improve the IPH evaluation . However, automated hemorrhage detection has been challenging due to either low IPH contrast or poor lumen contrast.

Improved carotid intraplaque hemorrhage imaging using a slab-selective phase-sensitive inversion-recovery (SPI) sequence.

Intraplaque hemorrhage in atherosclerotic plaques has been associated with accelerated plaque growth as well as exacerbation of clinical symptoms. The identification of intraplaque hemorrhage using magnetic resonance imaging primarily relies on the detection of methemoglobin on T(1) weighted images. Current techniques are limited by insufficient intraplaque hemorrhage-wall contrast and poor blo...

Enhanced Intraplaque Hemorrhage Delineation Method in Slab-selection Phase-sensitive Inversion-recovery (SPI) Sequence with MRI

Introduction: Atherosclerosis is the number one killer in the world. Previous histopathological and prospective studies [1,2] have shown that intraplaque hemorrhage (IPH) into the carotid atherosclerotic plaque is a major factor causing plaque instability and progression. Thus, IPH is critical to evaluation of carotid atherosclerotic disease. Among techniques proposed for in vivo IPH imaging an...

Simultaneous bright‐ and black‐blood whole‐heart MRI for noncontrast enhanced coronary lumen and thrombus visualization

PURPOSE To develop a 3D whole-heart Bright-blood and black-blOOd phase SensiTive (BOOST) inversion recovery sequence for simultaneous noncontrast enhanced coronary lumen and thrombus/hemorrhage visualization. METHODS The proposed sequence alternates the acquisition of two bright-blood datasets preceded by different preparatory pulses to obtain variations in blood/myocardium contrast, which th...

The effect of inversion times on the minimum signal intensity of the contrast agent concentration using inversion recovery t1-weighted fast imaging sequence

Background :Inversion recovery (IR) pulse sequences can generate T1-weighted images with a different range of inversion time (TI) to suppress or null the signal intensity (SI) for a specified tissue. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effect of TI values on the concentration of the contrast agent, which leads to a minimum signal intensity, using an inversion recovery T1-weighted 3-dim...

An optimized 3D inversion recovery prepared fast spoiled gradient recalled sequence for carotid plaque hemorrhage imaging at 3.0 T.

An optimized 3D inversion recovery prepared fast spoiled gradient recalled sequence (IR FSPGR) on a 3-T scanner for carotid plaque imaging is described. It offers clear blood and fat signal suppression at the carotid artery bifurcation and highlights the regions of carotid plaque affected by hemorrhage at 3 T with high contrast and contrast-to-noise ratio compared with other sequences. It can p...
